Britain Set to Use Seized Russian Holdings to Fund Ukraine's War Effort
The British government is prepared to move forward with utilizing the entire amount of immobilized Russian assets to bolster the Ukrainian military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a joint statement, the officials of the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this joint measure would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to participate in talks.
They added that the decision would be executed in strong partnership with the US.
UK penalties have immobilized more than £25bn of Russia's assets since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. However, up to this point, funds provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had exclusively been taken from gains and dividends earned on them.
Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their goal to push forward toward utilizing the total worth of the seized Russia's state assets to end the war.
He added that further sanctions soon would apply more pressure on the Russian government.
This announcement is subsequent to EU leaders gathered in the Danish capital previously to discuss using seized Russian assets for a €140bn financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
Last month, President Donald Trump urged G7 allies to confiscate or utilize seized Russia's assets, according to reports.
The worth of immobilized Russian funds in the European Union is assessed to be nearly €211bn.
