Bullish Celtic's manager insists he is not worried about being fired but the Parkhead faithful unleash anger after defeat.
The Celtic boss declared he had no concerns about dismissal, claiming, “I believe we are extremely close to changing our fortunes,” despite edging perilously close to the chopping block with a comprehensive setback against their arch-rivals.
A Second-Half Capitulation Results in Derby Disaster
Celtic were ahead their oldest rivals at the interval but a second-half capitulation allowed Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the reigning league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was brought in from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six setbacks in his first eight games.
“The board and I are united at the club,” said the manager.
Pressed on his own future, the 48-year-old replied: “I don’t think about it. My focus is on discovering solutions to help my team to excel on details.
Fan Fury On Display
Hundreds of supporters displayed their anger – towards the hierarchy – by gathering at Parkhead. The hierarchy are thought to be considering to bring back the former boss, who had a fruitful caretaker period last year, should a change be made.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Absolutely not. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to change the narrative.”
“Really, Really Close”
The coach remains focused on the fact his team can perform strongly for one half at a time. In fact, if not for poor finishing they would have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit aside from the fact that we haven’t scored our chances,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I have also to be objective.
“The level we had at certain moments was really, really, really high. That is a fact. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was not the case. But that’s why, in terms of results, I noted it's a repeating pattern. That’s why I feel we are really close to a shift in fortunes. Currently: the fine margins.”
“We produced many, many good things that we did, once more. But now it’s about consistency. My outlook would change if I didn't believe it. That’s why I am convinced we will manage to fix this.”
The Rangers Boss Response
Danny Röhl was cautious about a serious challenge in spite of what appeared to be a statement victory. “One match at a time, then we can gradually build a challenge,” he said. “The belief in the team is immense.”
