Government Appeals to High Court After Unsuccessful Attempt to Halt Food Stamp Aid Directive
Last Friday, just moments following a federal appeals court decided that the White House needs to fully fund Snap food aid payments, the federal government turned to the US top court in a new attempt to halt the ruling.
Within hours, the supreme court released an emergency order provisionally halting entire Snap food aid funds, which close to 42 hundred thousand people depend on to feed their families.
“Legal counsel continue working, around the clock, to defend and advance our agenda,” the attorney general declared on digital channels just after 9:30pm in Washington.
White House staff had asked the federal appeals court to overturn a judicial decision mandating they distribute this month's complete food stamp benefits during a federal closure, and was denied later the same day.
