Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
