This January recruitment period is typically a time of significant speculation and potential major moves. Numerous high-profile players are being linked with transfers away from their current clubs. We examine some of the key names that could be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, which has left the forward in contention, indications are an important transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a short period at the start of the month. Latest developments suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative targets, leaving teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his deal due to run out in the close season, January is the club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous top clubs, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure is considered difficult, especially given the manager's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Welsh forward has found starting opportunities hard to come by at Spurs this term. Although being the club's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started just a handful of league matches. It is understood the North London outfit is open to a transfer for the correct price, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker might be set for a return to the English top flight following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now just 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he represents a potential bargain. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the player. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran Germany goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following new manager Flick. Having lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter exit looks highly likely. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven English striker has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling chances of being in the England squad. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous salary make any move difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as interested parties.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish attacker has been in fine form for the Italian giants this term. As his current deal nearing its end, many Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to keep one of the continent's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is widely expected to complete a major move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at approximately £22 million.
