This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
